Black Powder, Hawks & Knives, Traps & Snares, Flint Knapping, Branding, Pioneering, Canoeing, Climbing, Rope making, Crafts, Blanket Shoot, Blanket Throwing, Blanket Trading, and a 102 boys over 4 days.  Yee Haw!!

Mountain Man School

We camped out this weekend to show the boys what to expect at Mountain Man Camp. These pictures are of a blanket trading session. Paul Barker, Evan, and Little Trapper.

Preparation for Mountain Man Camp

In July, from the 11th to the 14th we are expecting 150 boys 14-16yrs old to enjoy learning about the Mountain Men in the Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Utah areas. We will have Black Powder contest, Axe throwing, Knive Throwing, Arrow Head making (flint napping), bow and aarow making and then a contest. Blanket shoots and blanket trading where you show your wares and others come to you and trade for pelts and bead and stuff. Kathy was about to shoot me when I asked her if she wanted to try throwing knives (in the living room). She is the woman! They stuck.

Christmas Cheer " Rudolph's Revenge

Jessica talked me into running a 5K. I thought I was going to be under 6ft. Alas, I have slowed down to a 12min mile pace. Lets see, in 1972 I was running 5min mile. In 1985 I was down to 5:38. In 1995 a 7:30. In 2005 around a 8:30 and in the last 6 years I have lost 4 min. I must be getting old. I'm also carring a usless 37lb. back pack that has somehow fallen around my waist. Now it's s Christms with visions of sugar plums dancing in my head. HoHoHo!!!

So, our Durango was running on its last leg. Besides I needed something to get me safely in and out of the mountains fishing, hunting, hauling Scouts, and having fun.
